Nicholas County High School cheerleaders traveled to Martinsburg on November 9 to compete in the Region II Cheerleading Competition that was held at Spring Mills High School.
The Grizzlies were competing for the AA regional cheer title against ten other teams. Other teams competing in the competition included Bridgeport, Liberty, Robert C Byrd, Roane County, Elkins, Lewis, Clay, Herbert Hoover, Lincoln, and Braxton County. Bridgeport took first place at the competition with Lincoln as the runner-up. NCHS placed tenth out of eleven teams, and, although they fell short, they still put on a good performance.
Connie Rader, NCHS assistant cheer coach, explained, “These girls work really hard and did awesome at the competition. They’re number one in my book.” She said the girls continually make her proud, and, although it is undecided whether they will be competing in a second competition, Connie says she couldn’t have asked for more from them this season.
