Nicholas County High School Students Get Informed on College Fair Day

By Canessa Taylor and Macy Ward

On October 16, 2019, Nicholas County High School juniors and seniors attended Nicholas County’s college fair, organized by GEAR UP.

Multiple colleges, including West Virginia University, Bridge Valley Community and Technical College, and Fairmont State University, set up displays in the NCHS cafeteria. Students got the opportunity to speak with representatives from the colleges of their choice, apply to schools they want to attend, and even collect souvenirs like pens and keychains from certain schools.

The college fair is the perfect place for students to learn more about the colleges and programs they are interested in for post-high school plans. Not only did NCHS seniors and juniors get to attend the college fair, Richwood High School seniors were brought over to attend as well.

When asked if he found the college fair to be beneficial, NCHS senior Colton Groves explained, “Yes, it was beneficial. It gave me opportunities to receive information from various colleges.” Senior Levi Brake even applied to Fairmont State University at the college fair and is patiently awaiting that acceptance letter. Go Falcons!
