The Nicholas County High School cross country team is setting its goals high for this season. The runners intend to improve their times and set new personal records in an attempt to make it to states. In many races this season, runners for the cross country team have made it their mission to win and become better runners overall. Kathleen Walkup, a sophomore runner for the NCHS girls’ cross country team, explained, “I love running, and I’ve set personal goals to run as fast as I can.”
The coach for the NCHS cross country team, Jennifer Gatewood, has also set goals of her own for the 2019 season. “The main focus for this year’s season is to win and set new records. For me personally, my goal is to help the kids achieve their best records and develop new skills that will help them the rest of their lives,” explained Coach Gatewood. She is training her runners for a winning season and, in the process, hopes to shape the runners to their full potential.
