2018 Football Playoffs

By Timmy Baker & Justin Hill:

The Nicholas County Grizzlies finished the season at 11-1.

The Grizzlies’ football team had an outstanding undefeated regular season which resulted in them making the play-offs. They played the 7-2 Petersburg Vikings in the first round of the playoffs. The game was held at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium in Nicholas County on November 9.

The game started off slowly, but the grizzlies pulled through. They won the game by a score of 41-10. That win advanced them to the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinals were set to be played against the Weir Red Riders on November 17. It was the first quarterfinal game ever hosted in NCHS school history. Although the Grizzlies fought hard, they lost the game with a score of 63-43.

“Knowing that the season was over, and it had to end the way it did, nobody was happy,” said Junior Nose Guard, Colton Groves. The Grizzlies finished the season at 11-1, making a new school record for NCHS.

“It was great for the program. I think we could’ve made it farther in the playoffs, but over half our starters are returning, so we will be even stronger next year,” said Head Coach Gene Morris.”
