The Poetry Out Loud Competition took place at NCHS on January 10th, 2018, and one person was chosen to attend the state contest. The person who won at the school level was Hope Adkins, and Galilea Villasenor was the runner up. Hope placed in the Top 10 for Division 1 at the state level Poetry Out Loud Competition at the WV Culture Center in Charleston, WV, on March 9-10. Forty-four schools competed in this competition. The winner at the state level will compete at nationals held in DC. Hope had to memorize three poems, and recite them in front of a panel of judges. Mrs.McClung, Coordinator of the NCHS Poetry Out Loud Competition, said, “Poetry fosters a love of language and reflects on the power of written and spoken words.”
